Five Take Aways from the TUUCAN Fall Flock on October 18th

An update on Tennessee Unitarian Universalist Community Action Network (TUUCAN)

ree

October 18th, 2025, was an important date. We saw massive numbers of people take to the streets for No Kings events. The energy was palpable. The joy and hope created by this movement cannot be overstated. That same day, October 18th, 2025, TUUCAN had its first in-person and virtual gathering. The energy was palpable. The joy and hope created by this gathering cannot be overstated.

Here are my 5 take aways from that day.

1- A room full of UUs equals a room full of new and exciting ideas. Data is being compiled now to help TUUCAN learn from the ideas we generated on that day.

2- Tennessee is very diverse. There is so much value in listening to the voices of all congregations in our state. As a statewide network, TUUCAN will provide a way to connect us to each other.

3- It is vital to know what our resources are, both locally for each UU congregation but also on the state level. This information will help TUUCAN to quickly identify what resources are available and how to access them in an emergency.

4- When there are awful things happening all around us, it can feel as if there is nothing that we as individuals can do. But as a collective, we can move mountains.

5- My biggest take away was that of hope. There was a light in that room that was created from the joy and energy of all of us, and that light was hope. Hope is a powerful thing, it lifts us up and gives us the strength to act, and action moves mountains.

Every third Saturday, TUUCAN holds a meeting that all are welcome to attend. We often have speakers and other learning opportunities. It is a great way to share community with other UUs in Tennessee.

This month's meeting is on Saturday, November 15th from 10AM- 12PM ET. Please join us either in person at TVUUC or on Zoom. Contact Curtis Dush for registration information.
