Religious Exploration for the Harvest Season

We are so fortunate at Westside to have an abundance of RE offerings! We are continuing some popular and requested RE classes as well as changing the format of our Compassionate Communication (CC). We held our first Compassionate Conversations, as an evolution of our previous CC class, this past Sunday, which was well attended and turned out to be a really great discussion! It is so interesting to hear how people are in alignment or in dissonance with issues. What a great way to get to know fellow Westsiders better and be in conversation about our individual and shared values. Please plan to join us as you can—all of these are drop-in sessions that don’t require previous attendance or preparation. We look forward to seeing you there!

Spiritual Practices, Sundays, 10-10:30 am, starting Oct. 3

A contemplative time before the service each Sunday to center and find inner balance. Lead by Rev. Carol Bodeau, Wendy Weiss, and others, we will explore spiritual practices through which we can find greater peace, meaning, and equanimity in our lives and our world.

Monthly Practice Focus:

Oct. Meditation

Nov. Contemplative Journaling

Dec. Music

Compassionate Conversations, First Sundays, 12:30-1:45

Applying the principles and techniques of Compassionate Communication, Rev. Carol invites discussion about current topics that are up for us here at Westside. Regardless of your familiarity or experience with this communication model, the conversation is open to all. This is a place where we can really talk with each other and hear what the voices of Westside have to say.

Suggested topics based on our service themes:

Nov. Abundance: Money and Our Community

Dec. Holidays: How are You Feeling about the Holidays This Year?

Starting Point, Second Sundays, 12:30-1:45

Everyone welcome, whether you are new to UU or are a longtime member. Among various ideas and topics, we will discuss various aspects of the Three Paths of Unitarian Universalism: listening, opening, serving.

Not sure what any of this means? Great! This is an open discussion; no preparation or prior knowledge is needed to participate. Our intention as a group is to get to know ourselves, each other, and our journeys better.

Earth Magic, Fourth Sundays, 12:30-1:45

A survey of Earth-based Spirituality with Rev. Carol Bodeau. Through wisdom from the world’s Spiritual traditions, we learn how tuning into the natural rhythms and cycles of the earth brings us closer to our inner knowing, our souls, and our sources of wisdom. By observing the energy of the seasons, we’ll explore what is being revealed in ourselves and in our community.

Oct. New Moon

Nov. Abundance

Dec. Winter Solstice

RE KIDS CLUB (K-6th grade) meets on 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month unless otherwise noted with special events.

Sunday, Oct. 13: Kids Club

Sunday, Oct. 27: Kids Club—Halloween Party

Help us plan the Kids Club Halloween Party! If you’d like to make donations of stickers, coins, Halloween-themed snacks, fruit, baked goods, or candy, please bring them to church starting on Oct. 13. Baked goods, fresh fruit, and snacks can be brought the day of the Halloween Party. We’ll put out a sign-up sheet a few weeks before the party.
