Rev. Carol Bodeau, with Aaron Tyrell
Friends,
We are learning more and more each day how important it is to connect with others to share hopes, dreams, concerns and ideas to build the world we dream of. In our wider UU community, lots is going on that we can connect to. As you have heard from Westsider Curtis Dush, the newly formed TUUCAN (Tennessee UU Community Action Network) is doing great things to work for justice in our whole state. But on a much more local level, there are things going on at other local UU churches you might want to know more about. Below, you will find some info about a TVUUC discussion event that happens each month. Hosted by Aaron Tyrell, this group is discussing current events from the lens of how media is influencing us on a daily basis. Check it out.

Introducing the ForUUm—a new group dedicated to Fostering Opportunities for Reconnection, Uplift, Unity, and Meaning!
At TVUUC on the Second Sunday of each month, we have a "Bring-Your-Own-Brunch" social hour from 12-1, followed by a 90 minute "Open Space" discussion.
We focus on the ideas in philosophy, politics, technology, and spirituality popular in online communities that influence many young people, tech billionaires, and political movements, but often go unnoticed by those who prefer to touch grass.
It's a place where the terminally online can go to reconnect, talk about ideas from the Internet zeitgeist, and see how conversations differ when you're face-to-face. It's also for those who are terminally offline to improve their modern media literacy, and get up-to-speed on the ideas and content creators that are influencing our culture.
The format is like a "YouTube Book Club" where several videos and articles related to the topic are posted each month to help inform our conversation. That way we can still have an intelligent discussion without sitting through a lecture or having to finish a whole book to feel included.
Childcare services are available for the parents.
Visit our Events Page to view the topic, videos, and other source materials for this month's discussion.

Note: This month we are very lucky to have Britt Hartley joining us over Zoom to lead the discussion of her book, No Nonsense Spirituality: All the Tools, No Belief Required.
Drawing from the wellsprings of science, philosophy, religion, and psychology, this illuminating work charts a course for those who seek a meaningful life without dogma or woo. Hartley draws on her work as an atheist spiritual director to provide practical guidelines for navigating a secular approach to ritual, morality, awe, transcendence, wisdom, community, intuition, connection, and meaning that can withstand the harsh truths of reality.
